Well, exam time is just around the corner. And so is Christmas. And this is going to be a big year. Because I'm going to Spain!
My husband's job is sending him over for over two weeks, and I finely get to go with him. I'm so excited. It's going to make for great knitting time. I'm also hoping to get my hands on some nice yarn.
Speaking of knitting, I think I'm going to have to give up on my personal challenge to knit a pair of socks every moth for Ravelry's Sock Knitter's Anonymous group. I've manged 2 for September, one for October, and started on on for November, and I have till the end of December to finish them, but I'm not sure I'm going to do anything for December itself. But I have some time to make up my mind for sure.
As it is, I've also stated a scarf I really like. I've had the yarn for a while. It's really nice expansive stuff I bought back before I stated knitted socks. It's coming along nicely, but it is distracting me from stocks.
And studding. Which I should get back to now.
Remind me again, why am I not knitting?

Temptation Management
Well, I failed my own test and started a new project. My downfall: SOCKDOWN on the Ravelry group “Sock Knitters Anonymous”. I’m designing my own sock. Which is either impressive or stupid, considering I’ve never even finished a sock before.
But I refuse to keep anything in my knitting bag buy my “Parting Socks”. I now have a little more than the toes done for his and am just starting the gusset for hers. I have tried hers on her once and the width is good.
My goal is the have the heal turned by next weekend so she can try them on again and make sure they still fit. I also hope to have his to the try on phase as well by then. That will only happen if I can get time to consecrate on them. Which means I should really stop blogging.

Jumping the Gun
Okay, I might have gotten a little ahead of myself with my latest project. When I finally got the preferred patterns from my minister and his wife for what they wanted, I started knitting hers even though they only gave me their shoe size (even though I asked for circumference, length and height). Seeming she has the same shoe size as me I thought I’d be alright. No such luck. Her feet are ½ an inch wider than mine. And considering I’d already taken off an inch for negative ease (a little over 1/10th for me) it was not going to work.
So, I forged what I had and started over. Not only did I go with the pattern’s toe style this time (not hard, but I’m not sure which I prefer, my other toe seems to come together quicker for me), but I had to edit the pattern a little. Her size puts the sock in the middle of the two sizes presented for the sock. So I added a k1, p1 in the center. I think it look good.
So, according to the yarn that had to be wrapped around the outsides of my pull-from-the-inside ball, I’m nearly back to where I was before. Not quite, because I just unwrapped the last of it and the sock is wider now.
With any luck, I’ll be able to get both pairs done by when they leave at the end of next month. My biggest challenge: resist the urge to start new projects!

Switching Gears
Well, I've started three new projects. Well sort of. I'm making socks for my minister and his wife as a going away gift. Because of this, my sister's socks have to go to sleep for a while. Mostly because I need the needles.
So I'll start with hers and then do his. But first I need to split the yarn in half. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I can't fined my food scale. I think my husband stole it. Which annoys me because I want to get started now! And I can't because I do both socks at the same time, meaning I need two balls of yarn.
The other project is more of a re-work. I've been working on a swish-cheese scarf, but I'm not overly happy with it. I've found another pattern, very similar but I think it's more elegant. Not as easy to knit though. I'm going to have to take it slow. I'm not going to frog the work I've done on the other scarf (it's on another ball of the same yarn and on different size needles, so it's not going to be a problem.) So I'll just going to work on the new one and make sure I like it before I rip up the old one. I may even get a second or third opinion. Who knows.
But for now, my main attention will be on my socks. As soon as I can find the scale.

Practice Makes Memorization
Okay, I've made the toe pattern for my Falling Leaves socks enough times that I don't even need the pattern now. This is the third time I've done both toes (okay, I'm still working on the second toe, but it's past midnight and time for me to call it a night).
For the provisional cast on, I think I'm using the "Magic 8" technique. I wrap the yarn in a figure eight pattern around the needles I'll use (both the active needle I'll use to make the short row turns of the toe, and the other I will used when I work in the round) this mean I don't have to transfer the stitches. Using the 2 circular needles works well for me.
The problem is I tend to want to knit when I don't have all my attention on my knitting. This probability isn't the best project for knitting at the movies. (Yeah, I took my socks to Iron Man 2 tonight, thus the most recent frogging.) That and the stitches are so small I have a hard time fixing it when I make a mistake or drop a stitch.
I think the only way to stop having to frog this product to the very beginning I'm going to have to put a safety line in when I'm done the first round. That is, I'm thinking I'll run thread though the stitches so if I need to undo the work again I'll be able to pick it up at the base of the toe. I should probably do the same every two or three inches, just as a safety measure.

In the Beginning
Well, it's exam time, and I'm taking on more stuff. No big surprise there.
I've never blogged before, and I really doubt anyone will actual read it. Granted, it is in cyberspace, so I will do my best to watch what I type. So begins my blogging.
Anyway, I'm a little depressed at the moment. I'm working on knitting my sister a pair of socks. My first pair of socks. And yesterday I had to rip them all out! I dropped a stitch in the lace and my smallest crochet hook was too big to save it. And I'm too much of a perfectionist to just leave it. So I began again. And I was half way done the foot in a toe-up, two at a time, pattern.
To commiserate, I did some stash shopping. I now have yarn for at least three more socks. Granted I can't start them until I finish my current pair. Such is life.
